Day 2: FEZ - UNESCO HERITAGE SITE
On the second day of our Morocco tour from Rabat, after savoring a delicious Moroccan breakfast, you have the opportunity to take a journey through the streets of Fes – the oldest, most prosperous, culturally rich, religiously spiritual, and mystically charged of Morocco’s four royal cities. Unchanged by the passage of time, step into the Chouara Tannery, the city’s largest and most renowned of the four ancient tanneries located in the heart of Fes’ medina. Gaze upon the majestic Karaouine Mosque, one of the largest architectural complexes, and Bab Boujloud, the most ancient and beautiful of the old city’s entrances. Though entry is not allowed, the 14th-century Royal Palace, with its seven gates, is worth a visit. Pay your respects to Moulay Idriss Mausoleum, a shrine to the king of Morocco from 807 to 828, one of the city’s founders, and wander through Seffarine Square, the home of one of Fes’ oldest professions – metalworking. To close the day, take a peek inside the Medersa Cherratine, one of three old Koranic schools, the only one open to the public, with its ornate yet functional style. End the day with a Moroccan dinner and accommodation to stay – all included.
Day 3: FEZ - CEDAR FOREST - Ziz VALLEY - MERZOUGA DESERT - CAMEL TREKKING AND NIGHT IN THE DESERT
Traverse the Middle Atlas to the Erg Chebbi sand sea, host to the charming Berber towns of Merzouga, Khamlia, and Hassilabed. Follow the journey through Ifrane, Azrou, and the Middle Atlas cedar woods, home to the captivating Barbary Macaques. Further on, pass Midelt, the Ziz river canyon, Erfoud, and Rissani, before reaching the edges of Erg Chebbi. Here, embark on a magical camel ride across the dunes to watch the sun dip below the horizon. Spend a night in a luxurious desert camp, encircled by the soft, golden sand.
Day 4: DESERT - RISSANI - TODRA GORGE - DADES GORGE
We continue our Morocco tour from Rabat, full from a sumptuous breakfast, to the exotic local of Rissani and its remarkable donkey parking lot. There, we will observe the convergence of all of the desert’s tribes and nomads, replenishing their resources. Then, a visit to Erfoud and one of the workshops featuring fossils that span back to the distant epoch of 380 million years ago. Afterward, we will journey to the much-lauded Todra Gorge, beloved by climbers and hikers alike. Finally, we will finish our excursion in the stunning Dades Valley, including dinner and lodging.
Day 5: DADES GORGE - VALLEY OF ROSES - OUARZAZATE - AIT BENHADDOU - MARRAKECH
We travel through the enchanting “Route of the Thousand Kasbahs” to the Dades Valley. Passing through the Valley of the Roses, where locals make delicate potions, soaps, and aromatic rose water from the area’s many Damascus Roses, the road is lined with majestic kasbahs that run alongside the river, creating an astonishingly picturesque landscape. As we make our way to Ouarzazate, we will bear witness to the renowned Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, whose scenery has been the backdrop for numerous films, such as The Gladiator, Obelix, and Western Sahara, starring Penelope Cruz. Our journey continues as we ascend the High Atlas Mountains, across the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260m in elevation), before descending into the lowlands and the red city of Marrakech. Dinner and accommodation are included in our excursion.
Day 6: MARRAKECH WITH LOCAL GUIDE
Today is your chance to traverse the majestic city and explore its captivating attractions. The Menara Grounds, a paradise on Earth, beckon with their serene beauty, enriched by a large artificial pool. As legend has it, the sultans of old cherished these gardens for their romantic rendezvous. The Saadian Tombs, discovered in 1917, offer a window into the past, with over 100 mosaics decorating the tombs of the Saadian dynasty’s slaves and soldiers. Then, there is the Bahia Palace, a grandiose structure that was once the home of a Vizier, enclosing a courtyard with a central basin and apartments. The iconic Koutoubia Mosque – its 69-meter-tall minaret the tallest structure in the city – stands out as a symbol of Marrakech. Finally, the Djemaa El Fna Square, a sprawling market with an array of food vendors that come alive in the evening, captivates with its urban energy.
