We will then travel to the magnificent Caves of Hercules, marveling at the incredible rock formations. Next, we will visit the beautiful city of Tétouan, known as “the eyes” and enjoy a delicious lunch there before continuing on to Chefchaouen. With its blue-painted doors and relaxed atmosphere, Chefchaouen is one of the most beautiful and tranquil towns in Morocco. You will be able to explore the medina and stay in a hotel for the night, ensuring a comfortable and memorable experience. This tour of Tangier and Chefchaouen is an opportunity to discover the exotic, mysterious beauty of the Moroccan deserts.
Day 2: Chefchaouen – Meknes – Fez
After breakfast, we will depart from the beautiful Chefchaouen and begin our journey to the magical city of Fes. On our way, we will make a stop for a visit to the ancient Roman Ruins of Volubilis, a once grand city that was left in ruins after a devastating earthquake in the mid-18th century. After that, we will travel on to the majestic city of Meknes, one of the four Imperial cities. There, you will have the opportunity to explore the famous El Hedim Square, marvel at the grandeur of the Mausoleum of Sultan Moulay Ismail, and get lost in the cobblestoned streets of the Old Medina. Once we arrive in Fes, you will be able to rest and recharge in your hotel and enjoy a delicious dinner there.
Day 3: Fez – Ifrane – Cedar Forest – Midelt – Erfoud – Merzouga
On the third day of our desert tour from Tangier, we will begin our epic journey to the exotic desert of Merzouga, traveling through the breathtaking Atlas Mountains. We will pass through Ifrane, the most modern and pristine city in the country, and arrive at the edge of the Cedar Forest, and the city of Azrou, which is nestled on a hillside and surrounded by many kinds of woodland where endangered Barbary monkeys roam. We will then take a break for lunch in a Berber village, before driving down the curves and entering the pre-Saharan zone, passing through Errachidia and Erfoud, known for its pottery and fascinating fossil quarries. From the vast plateau, we will be awestruck by the giant sand dunes of Merzouga that stretch before us, as far as the eye can see. By nightfall, we will reach our hotel and can rest easy knowing we have seen some of the most marvelous sights that nature has to offer.
Day 4: Merzouga – Khamlia – Rissani – Erg Chebbi
We will embark on a journey to explore the spectacular landscape of the Erg Chebbi dunes and the many tiny villages that lie along the way, such as Hassi Labied, Merdani, Khamlia, and M’fis. As we make our way to the village of Kamlia, we will likely come across locals with their desert foxes, and may even spot some desert reptiles and mammals. In Khamlia, known as the village of black people who were once slaves coming from Sudan, you can expect to be welcomed with a cup of Berber whiskey while being serenaded with spiritual Gnawa music. Leaving Khamlia, our next stop on this desert tour from Tangier will be at the golden dunes near the Algerian border, where we will take a picnic lunch under the shade of a tree before continuing on to visit a Nomad family. Here, you will be introduced to the members of the family and learn about their way of life while sipping on a nice cup of tea. Afterward, you will have the chance to explore the sites of black volcanic rocks. As we make our way back to Merzouga, we will make one final stop near Yasmina Lac, if there is water present. Here you will be captivated by the view of the dunes and the nearby lake, and may even take the time to dip your toes in its waters (during springtime). After this, we will make our way back to Merzouga and spend the night at nomad tents near the dunes.
Day 5: Merzouga – Erfoud – Todgha Gorges – Dades
After watching the breathtaking sunrise, we return to the enchanting sand dunes of Merzouga. We have the chance to refresh in a warm shower and enjoy a delightful breakfast. Then, we embark on our journey back to Ouarzazate, with stops along the way to explore the Berber villages, wander through the stunning Todra gorges, and take in the majestic beauty of the Dades valley. As the sun sets, we will spend the night in a luxurious hotel, surrounded by the exotic sights and sounds of Morocco.
Day 6: Dades – Ouarzazate – Aït Benhaddou – Marrakech
In the morning, we will depart from Dades to Ouarzazate and head to Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a spectacular 11th-century fortification that has featured in more than 20 films, including the classic Gladiator.
