As we proceed, we will encounter the traditional Berber villages, and then continue to the UNESCO World Heritage site, Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, where we will indulge in a lunch in the vicinity of the Kasbah. Afterward, we will travel to Ouarzazate, where we can explore the Kasbah Taourirt and Atlas Studios. Our next destination will be the Dades Gorges, where we will pass through Roses and Dades Valley until we arrive at our final destination. Here, we shall spend the night in a luxurious hotel or a desert raid, amidst the serene beauty of the Dades Gorges.
Day 2: Dades - Todra Gorges - Jorf - Erfoud - Merzouga Desert (Erg Chebbi Dunes)
After a hearty breakfast in the hotel, make your way back through the lush valley to observe the stunning rock formation known as “the monkey toes”, as well as the still-standing 19th century Kasbah of Ait Yul. As you travel from the Dades Valley to Tinrghir and the Todra Valley, prepare to be amazed by the mesmerizing views of the old mud Berber villages perched atop the valley. Upon reaching the Gorge, you will be surrounded by towering red cliffs that reach up to 300m in height – a popular destination for rock climbers and adventurers. After exploring the Gorge, make your way to Erfoud and Rissani for lunch, before venturing to the village of Merzouga. Upon your arrival, you will be greeted with a refreshing glass of mint tea before checking into your accommodation, ready to begin your journey into the exotic and dreamy Moroccan desert.
Around 5 or 6 pm, you will embark on your journey across the desert. An hour later, you will be welcomed with a sweet, refreshing cup of traditional mint tea, taking in the stunning sunset and the vastness of the Sahara. Later on, dinner will be served at the camp’s restaurant tent. The night will come alive with the enchanting music of Berber drums being played by the locals around the bonfire. Don’t forget to take a walk to the dunes and look up to the night sky, where you will be mesmerized by a million stars twinkling in the darkness. Although the bonfire is a common sight during the cold months, the beauty and adventure of the desert remain the same all year round.
